March 2016 – HAPPY EASTER
I very much appreciated how many people, both members and non-members, came to my talk on growing up in South Africa. I am so sorry that I was unable to show photos. I had been told that there was a DVD player at the centre but it did not work. Bodo did well getting boerewors and biltong for people to taste. Could you let me know if you would like the recipe for Babotie? It is an interesting recipe.
Thank you to Elisabeth, Ann and others who did so well getting the tea ready and clearing up afterwards.
I hope you all have a Happy Easter. It seems quite strange to have it in March. Since I last wrote we have had two Twinning Events. The 1st was very bad for my taste buds – I love chocolate! It was very interesting seeing how chocolate was made.
Our next event is the AGM on the 28th April at 7.30pm in the Moot Hall. It is a magnificent room and I hope as many of you as possible will be able to come and enjoy the surroundings. It is open to non-members as well. There will be an opportunity to renew your membership. We have a few vacancies on our committee and hope some of you would be interested in joining.
A visit is planned to Avignon in the 3rd week of November to welcome the arrival of the new Cote du Rhone. It is an interesting occasion. We should have details of our visit by then.
News item. The newly signed Erasmus agreement has established new co- operation between THM /StudiumPlus (Wetzlar) and the University of Essex. This will enable 2 students from the Colchester faculty of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering to have one semester in an industry placement with a StadiumPlus partner company and one semester studying business informatics in Freiburg. In turn two students from Wetzlar will attend Essex University.
